Van Deemter Equation Chromatographic Theory
Rate theory of chromatography
A partial differential equation set up by van Deemter for a linear isotherm resulted in an effluent concentration function.
It is based on a Gaussian distribution similar to that of plate theory. He was attempting to account for the dynamics of the separation process.
The equation consists of three basic terms:
2λdP: Packing related term
2γDg / u: Gas (mobile phase) term
8k(df)2 u /π(1+k)2Dl: Liquid (stationary phase) term
